Compress video to any size free — no upload
Forms, portals and chat apps all have different limits. Type the size you need and MiniFiles compresses the video to fit under it, right in your browser.
This browser can't compress video. Use a recent version of Chrome, Edge, Safari or Firefox on a computer — the video is still processed on your device and never uploaded.
How to compress a video to a specific size
- Drop your video into the box above — Custom size is already selected.
- Type the size limit in MB (for example 8, 20 or 50).
- Keep 720p, or choose 480p for long videos; trim or mute it if MiniFiles says the size is too small.
- Click Compress video and download the MP4.
How video compression works in MiniFiles
- Processed on your device. The video is decoded and re-encoded by your browser's own video encoder (WebCodecs, usually hardware-accelerated) with the Mediabunny library. Nothing is uploaded.
- Size or quality. Pick High, Balanced or Small quality, or a size target such as under 10 MB for Discord or 25 MB for email; the bitrate is worked out from the video's length.
- Smaller frame, smaller file. Scaling a 4K or 1080p phone video down to 720p is usually the biggest saving. Videos are never upscaled, and vertical videos stay vertical.
- Trim and mute. Keep only part of the video, or remove the audio track, before compressing — both make the file smaller still.
- Plans. Free: MP4 output at 720p or 480p for videos up to 200 MB, compressed to any size you choose. Pro adds the original resolution and 1080p, no file size limit and WebM. Without an account you get 10 uses a day across all tools.

Frequently asked questions
How does MiniFiles hit a target size?
It divides the size you want by the video's length to get a bitrate, keeps a small safety margin for the container and audio, and encodes at that bitrate — so the result lands just under the limit.
What's the smallest size I can choose?
It depends on the length: below roughly 150 kbps video stops being watchable, so MiniFiles shows the minimum for your clip. Trim it or remove the audio to go smaller.
Common limits?
Discord free: 10 MB. Gmail: 25 MB. Outlook.com: 20 MB. WhatsApp: 2 GB for documents. Many job and school portals: 5–50 MB.
Is my video uploaded to a server?
No. MiniFiles compresses videos in your browser with the browser's own video encoder, so the file never leaves your device.
Which browsers work?
Recent versions of Chrome, Edge, Safari and Firefox on a computer. Phones work for short videos, but long videos can run out of memory.
Why won't my iPhone video open on Windows?
iPhones record in HEVC (H.265), which Chrome on Windows can only decode with Microsoft's HEVC extension installed. Use Safari or Edge, or install the extension.
Is it free?
Free: MP4 output at 720p or 480p for videos up to 200 MB, compressed to any size you choose. Pro adds the original resolution and 1080p, no file size limit and WebM. Without an account you get 10 uses a day across all tools.
